In August 2021, Boorrumpah Goupong Aboriginal Corporation brought men together on Country at Middle Road, Purga for a cultural camping experience focused on connection, healing and wellbeing.
The camp created a safe space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men to step away from the demands of everyday life, reconnect with Country, strengthen cultural identity and build meaningful relationships with one another.
Through shared stories, yarning, cultural knowledge and time spent together around the camp, participants were encouraged to reflect, support one another and continue their personal journeys of growth. Camps such as these reinforce the importance of culture as a foundation for strong mental health, resilience and community leadership.
The August 2021 Men's Camp reflects BGAC's ongoing commitment to developing strong men through culture, connection and community, creating opportunities for healing that continue to have a positive impact long after the camp has finished.
